Module 5
Language
In Akan civilization, language is far more than a mechanism for everyday communication—it is the supreme vehicle of statecraft, jurisprudence, philosophical reasoning, and aesthetic refinement. In formal assemblies and royal courts, blunt or unadorned speech is regarded as crude. The hallmark of the educated mind is the ability to clothe ideas in proverbs, metaphors, and allegorical parables, honoring the classical maxim: “Ɔbanyansofoɔ, yɛbɔ no bɛ, na yɛnnkã no asɛm” (To the wise, one speaks in proverbs, not in plain words).
